Developed and published by Capcom, Vampire Hunter Dark Stalkers Revenge for Sega Saturn brings home the second entry in the Darkstalkers series. The game first appeared in Japanese arcades in 1995, with the Japanese Saturn release following in 1996. Outside Japan, it was known as Night Warriors: Darkstalkers’ Revenge; this JP copy carries the Vampire Hunter identity used in its home market.The sequel expanded the original’s monster-movie roster with Donovan and Hsien-Ko, while making former bosses Huitzil and Pyron playable. Beneath all those claws, fangs, and wonderfully elastic expressions is a sharp fighting system built around chain combos and a super meter that lets you stock multiple levels. Capcom’s character animation gives the cast personality well beyond their horror references, and the Saturn conversion became a respected way to play this arcade fighter at home. It captures a particularly lively period in Capcom’s 2D fighting-game history, when Street Fighter wasn’t the company’s only laboratory.This complete-in-box Japanese copy is in good condition and is an uncommon find in our shop. It was inspected, cleaned and tested by hand at Broad Street Exchange in Woodbury, NJ.
