Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe brought two very different kinds of heavy hitters together on PlayStation 3 in 2008, when it launched in North America and Europe. Developed by Midway Games’ Chicago studio and published by Midway, it paired fighters like Scorpion and Sub-Zero with Batman, Superman, and the Joker. It was also the first Mortal Kombat fighting game rated Teen by the ESRB, dialing back the series’ graphic violence without dropping its taste for ridiculous confrontations.The fighting kept a 3D arena format while adding Free-Fall Kombat, where opponents traded blows between levels of a stage, and Klose Kombat, a close-up exchange built around attacks and counters. DC’s heroes used finishing moves called Heroic Brutalities rather than Fatalities, a neat reflection of the crossover’s competing personalities. Its story mode offered separate Mortal Kombat and DC perspectives, making this an interesting precursor to the cinematic storytelling that became central to later Mortal Kombat games and Injustice.This US copy is complete in box and in good condition.
