About this piece
Mario Tennis for GameCube was developed by Camelot and published by Nintendo, first releasing in Japan in 2004 as Mario Tennis GC. Known as Mario Power Tennis in North America and Europe, it followed Camelot’s Nintendo 64 entry with a bigger emphasis on character-specific spectacle. The fundamentals still mattered: positioning, shot selection, and knowing when to rush the net could make the difference between a clean winner and an embarrassing whiff. The big addition was Power Shots, giving each character offensive and defensive abilities that could turn a rally around with suitably ridiculous animation. Traditional courts kept the focus on tennis, while gimmick courts introduced hazards and special rules drawn from Mario’s world. Singles and doubles, including local play for up to four players, made it a particularly lively couch game. This Japanese edition carries the Mario Tennis GC name and Japanese-language text; it is region-specific software, so check your hardware’s compatibility before playing on a non-Japanese GameCube. This loose copy is in mint condition, an uncommon find in our shop, and has been inspected, cleaned, and tested by hand at Broad Street Exchange in Woodbury, NJ.
