Rather than simply replaying the movie, it follows Niobe and Ghost through a parallel story that fills in events happening outside Neo’s view. The Wachowskis wrote the game’s story and directed original live-action footage for it, making this an unusually ambitious connection between a film and its video game counterpart.The action mixes gunplay, martial arts, driving sequences, and a Focus system that lets you slow time and pull off gravity-defying moves. Choosing Niobe or Ghost changes certain missions and perspectives, while a command-line hacking mode leans into the series’ computer-terminal aesthetic. Reviews were mixed, with the movie connections drawing interest while uneven mechanics and technical problems attracted criticism.
